Bardbarian is an unusual tower defense game enriched with arcade elements, developed by the independent studio TreeFortress Games.
Story
The main hero of Bardbarian is Brad, a barbarian who decided to abandon killing enemies in favor of playing his axe converted to a lute. His skills are put to the test when his hometown is invaded by an army of enemies. The protagonist has no choice but to grab his instrument and go out to meet the adversaries.
Mechanics
In Bardbarian the action is shown in an isometric view. The game takes place in real-time and our task is to defend the precious crystal from our enemies. During the game, we cross the battlefield and try to control Brad in such a way as to avoid at all costs encounters with opponents and projectiles thrown by them. The hero constantly plays his lute, and from time to time he plays solos, summoning new units to the battlefield, which follow him and eliminate enemies wandering around the map. By sending waves of enemies to the other side, we not only unlock significantly more powerful allies (twelve types of units are at our disposal), but also gain gold. After each death, we can buy new items and skills to increase the combat potential of Brad and his helpers and the defensive capabilities of the city itself.
Game modes
Bardbarian offers three gameplay modes. The basic one is Story Mode, where we get to know the story of Brad and try to repel the attack on his hometown. The next ones are Endless and Survival, where we face endless waves of adversaries, trying to survive as long as possible; the result can be boasted on online leaderboards.
Technical aspects
Bardbarian has found its way to both PCs and mobile devices - in both cases, it is now distributed in premium model. PC players can fight not only as Brad but also heroes inspired by other independent games, including Octodad (known from the games of the same title) and Meat Stack (taken from Team Meat games).
