Astral Chain Switch

Astral Chain is an SF action adventure game developed by the Japanese studio PlatinumGames. The team was led by Takahisa Taura, who was the main designer of Nier: Automata, and the production was supervised by Hideki Kamiya, the father of the Bayonetta series.

Plot

The action of the game takes place in the near future, in a multicultural metropolis known as the Ark. The peaceful life of its inhabitants is interrupted by the opening of gates to another dimension, through which monsters begin to arrive to Earth. In order to combat this threat, a special police unit, called Nauron, is established, whose operatives us mechanical partners in combat.

Astral Chain tells the story of a brother and sister who join the Neuron unit. At the beginning of the campaign, the player decides which of these characters he will lead, but the other siblings still plays an important role in the storyline.

Mechanics

Astral Chain is an adventure action game in which we observe the events from a TPP camera. While playing, users take part in combat missions, in which they fight hordes of enemies with the help of an arcade combat system. In clashes we are always accompanied by a robot obedient to our orders and the key role is played by combo attacks, which require close cooperation between the law enforcement officer and their mechanical partner.

Between missions, the players explore the city. Then they get to know the story background and conduct conversations with NPCs.

Technical aspects

Astral Chain offers attractive three-dimensional visuals, adopting the style typical of Japanese animation. It is worth mentioning that the manga artist Masakazu Katsura, known for such mangas as I's, DNA2 or Zetman, was responsible for character design.
