Arctic Baron (also known as Transarctica) is a strategy game by Silmarils, which takes us to the near future. Humanity, defending itself against the lamentable effects of the greenhouse effect, has led to the sky being covered with heavy clouds. Unfortunately, the limited access to sunlight caused that most of the world at that time covered itself with ice. The only effective means of transport in the new, unfriendly reality turned out to be trains, steel fortresses, which became both a state and a city. This is where a new law - the right of survival - is laid down.
Any daredevil who wants to immerse himself in the depths of the ice-bound world will receive a small train at the beginning. Moving on the tracks protruding from the snow, it rides from the settlement to the settlement and trades what it will fall into. The new currency is coal, which is necessary for traveling and also to provide heat inside the train. However, cold is not the only danger faced by people in the Arctic Baron. In addition to you, there are other units in the area that dream of eliminating competition.
In addition to goods for trade, new wagons can also be purchased in the settlements. Thanks to them it will be possible to hire spies, who will be able to collect information about new cities and enemy vehicles in real time. In case of direct confrontation with an opponent's train, there is a battle in which you have to eliminate all aggressors. Half poor, if your train is short and jumping to the next guns will be fast. The situation becomes uninteresting when the line-up is really long and enemies only need to destroy a few key wagons to eliminate you from the game.
Arctic Baron is an interesting and addictive game, mainly due to the original idea and the need to make decisions on several levels. It is also a very difficult product - moving in this unfriendly world at a level higher than the third (out of five), requires great patience and knowledge of the rules of the game. The audio-visual setting does not knock down, but it is also hard to accuse it of something - all the information is clear and obtaining it is very easy. Beginners may find it difficult to use the map of the area, but you can get used to it in a short time. Silmarils programmers have always been keen to create ambitious products and Arctic Baron is an excellent example of this.
