Angry Video Game Nerd II: ASSimilation
Arcade 29 March 2016
A continuation of a platformer by Freakzone Games studio, based on the Internet game review series starring James Rolfe. Plot in Angry Video Game Nerd II: ASSimilation does not make much sense and serves only as a pretext for action. When the Earth is struck by a beam from space, it turns the world into a video game and the hero from the original title undertakes a mission of saving his friends and humanity. Visually and mechanically the game is very similar to the classic platformer hits from the NES console. Therefore, the player jumps, avoids obstacles, and fights enemies he comes across, including powerful bosses. During gameplay you collect different parts of the armor, which makes playing a bit more easy, and unlock the hero’s new abilities, like short-distance gliding. The game features a high difficulty level, a large dose of black humor, and numerous references to the classic titles.

Developed by a small studio Freakzone Games, a 2D platformer based on the Internet review series called Angry Video Game Nerd, in which James Rolfe describes classic, old-school video games in an extremely funny way. The production draws inspiration from hits like Castlevania, Mega Man, and Super Mario Bros. During gameplay, inspired by the biggest gaming classics, you control the Angry Video Game Nerd who sets off to a world full of adventures and dangers. The mechanics revolve around exploring the 2D world, jumping on platforms, and fighting enemies. The hero meets all kinds of enemies on his way – starting from armored knights, through flying, hostile suns, ending with gigantic snowmen that attack him with snowballs. To defeat them, you need to master timing and skilfully use available weapons and boosters.
