A logic game which is a new entry in the famed Angry Birds series. This time, we are dealing with a game inspired by match-3 (tile matching) games, but some of the mechanics are a bit different from what the genre has accustomed us to. The players are facing levels of differing shape, filled with tiles and balloons whose colors correspond to the colors of the birds trapped inside.
Angry Birds Blast for AND and iOS is a new entry in the famed Angry Birds series, known as one of the most successful video game franchises. As always, the game was developed by Rovio, a Finish studio responsible for the creation of the whole franchise. Blast is a logic game using a free-to-play model with micro transactions.
Mechanics
Angry Birds Blast for AND and iOS was inspired by the match-3 genre (tile matching games), but the developers decided to introduce new elements that diverge from the genre’s formula. Each level sees us puncture balloons whose colors correspond to the colors of the birds trapped inside. Our job is to free a certain amount of birds of the same color (e.g. five blue ones and eight green ones) which involves puncturing the right balloons. However, we can only do so when there are two balloons of the same color right next to each other.
Each level gives us a limited amount of moves. Our mission is facilitated by special items, rewarded for eliminating numerous balloons at once. For example, five balloons reward us with a rocket destroying one line (either vertical or horizontal), while seven means a bomb eliminating all tiles in near vicinity. All power-ups can be mixed, creating more and more powerful combinations.
The location of the tiles almost always forces us to think two steps ahead – sometimes, we’ll have to destroy some of the balloons to change the layout of the level and to get access to the needed color.
Moreover, we are constantly battling our eternal enemy – pigs. Some of the levels are infested with hungry pigs – the player can get rid of them by pushing tiles and destroying the balloons right next to them. Such actions are rewarded with additional points and often are a prerequisite to finish a stage.
Technical Aspects
Angry Birds Blast for AND and iOS is characteristic for its cartoon graphics and light visual style, similar to the ones encountered in other installments of the series.
