Aliens: Colonial Marines Description
“Aliens: Colonial Marines” is a FPS with co-op mode set in the Alien universe. The game was developed by Gearbox Software, creators of “Brothers in Arms” or “Borderlands”. “Colonial Marines” continues the movie story – its plot starts where “Alien 3” ended.
You play as Christopher Winter, a corporal of American colonial marines who is on a rescue mission in search of Ellen Ripley, the protagonist of the “Alien” movie series. His task takes him to well-known places, including USS Sulaco and colonial planet LV-426 where the soldiers face terrifying enemies – Aliens, monsters created to kill. What did happen to Ripley? The game tells the previously unknown story, shedding new light on the series.
“Aliens: Colonial Marines” offers a campaign including eleven missions which you can accomplish solo or in co-op. When playing on split screen, two players can take part. When you are playing online, four people can cooperate. The developer designed the missions to fit in the series as much as possible – they show characteristic locations, refer to well-known issues and offer the players equipment they know. The weapons include flamethrower or a smartgun detecting enemies. An important element is a motion detector playing distinctive sound when targets are approaching.
The game includes all the characteristics xenomorph subspecies – from relatively small but dangerous facehuggers to the strongest mutations. Gearbox has added several original ideas to the universe, including new types of enemies, e.g. hunters, who hide in the shadows looking for opportunity to make a surprise attack, blind ones exploding when reaching a target, or gigantic xenomorph ram with reinforced armor and charge attack skill.
The “Colonial Marines” could not miss the multiplayer mode. While in the main campaign you can only play as a human, the multiplayer part allows you to play as xenomorph. Developers have prepared several forms of multiplayer modes. Apart from mentioned co-op there are matches mode, i.e. Escape (team of marines must breaks through dangerous terrain) or Extermination (with tasks for each battle). Multiplayer is based on a system of archetypes and equipment, skills and improvements that can be selected before each fight.
