The only official extension to the Aces of the Pacific, an air battle simulator over the Pacific from the Second World War. This time the authors of the program decided to entertain clairvoyants and offered the player a set of completely hypothetical missions that take place just after the actual capitulation of Japan.

Up to thirty-four planes known from the basic version of the game, seven new ones were applied: four for the American side (F8F Bearcat, F7F Tigercat, F2G Corsair, P-80 Shooting Star) and three for the Japanese side (Ki-83, Kikka, Shinden). The new campaign, which takes place in the title year 1946, focuses on these machines. By choosing a career mode, the player can continue or restart their pilot's struggle by playing one of the scenario packages foreseen for each side.

The rest is an old, good Aces of the Pacific. The program offers a realistic flight model, which, according to the player's preferences, can be modified by selecting one of the three difficulty levels. The same applies to combat as well. In addition, there are ten smaller functions that everyone can run according to his or her own vision. These include blinding by the sun, limited ammunition and fuel, or the jamming of machine guns. With this solution, Aces of the Pacific WWII: 1996 can be played by enthusiasts of fully-fledged simulators as well as those who just want to shoot themselves, pushing realism to the background.

The add-on did not make any changes to the audio-visual setting. So we still have a choice of several views from which you can observe the action during the flight, the possibility of recording repetitions and viewing them with the help of various cameras. Expansion, although not a milestone in the genre of simulators, is certainly a nice surprise for all fans of the original.
