Assassin
Let's start with the fact that we won't be describing the entire lead-up to this sequence on this page. To get an opportunity of finding the Golden Bow you must complete a few tasks. One of them is defeating the Assassin. We've described how to do it on a separate page.
Trader
You'll get an opportunity of obtaining the Golden Bow after talking to the trader. He offers you a deal you must accept to get the "Fake Golden Bow". Take it to a temple marked on the map. The following part of this quest is only available if you want to obtain the Golden Bow.
Obtaining the real Golden Bow
You need to do a few things after entering the temple. Start by picking up the quiver you'll find on a stone shelf, right next to a sculpture.
Then extinguish both of the flames shown on the picture above. To do so, simply approach them and interact with them.
Finally, you must replace the real bow with the fake. Approach the sculpture, look up and interact with the bow. You'll obtain the real Golden Bow.
Take it to the door. It turns out the trader locked you in. There's no point talking to him. You can argue with him or just finish the conversation as soon as you can to continue the quest. It turns out getting the bow was very simple - the real difficult part is finding a way back to the city. When searching for a way out you need to find 3 journals which will let you complete the quest A Thorn in The Paw.
Naevia's Journal vol. 1
First, you must leave the temple itself. If you look up, you'll see a hornet's nest. Shoot it with your bow. This will turn the nest into gold. It will fall, shattering the floor and making a large hole.
This quest isn't difficult. Still, there are a few rules you must follow when going through the caves and passing by buildings.
You can keep going straight the entire time and not miss anything. There aren't any side paths along the way.
Examine everything you see. Nothing you'll find here has an owner. This means you won't commit theft. Collect all the arrows you can find. You're going to need them. If you run out of arrows, you'll have to backtrack.
From time to time you'll come across pools of water filled with algae. Going into the water hurts you. To pass safely you must shoot the water with your bow to turn it to gold, then walk across.
After getting past the first pool of water, you'll reach the rocks you need to climb. Notice that something is glowing on one of them. You should take an interest in that - it's the first journal you must acquire. Pick it up and move on. Its author will start reading it outloud as you progress through the cave.
Soon your dexterity will be tested. You must jump over small gaps. Don't be too stressed out, you won't be too hurt if you fall, and you can simply climb back up and try again.
An important element of this part of the game is turning vines into gold. This lets you walk and climb on them. It's one of the basic mechanics of this mission.
Enemies
Once you leave the cave, you'll find yourself on a building's ground floor. This is where you'll start encountering enemies.
This is very important. The enemies can be easily defeated with your bow. To dispatch them you can:
- Kick them away (or if they block your way after turning into statues).
- Shoot them - one headshot is enough to turn them into gold;
- If you aim for the body, you'll need two arrows to defeat them.
There's a large group of enemies in the courtyard. You shouldn't go out there. Briefly run out, get their attention and return to the terrace, standing behind a fence. The fence is a grueling obstacle for the enemies and will give you a massive advantage.
Dispatching all the enemies and examine the courtyard. One of the pools is empty because there's a huge hole in it. Jump into it to continue your journey.
Naevia's Journal vol. 2
You'll once again end up in a cave. There are two options you can choose from:
- Fight every encountered enemy;
- Run away by using vines you've turned into gold.
We believe the second option to be much better. It'll save you a lot of arrows, as you're not awarded in any way for killing enemies (turning them into statues).
You'll reach the next courtyard. Once again, there's a ton of enemies there. You should use the same method as before. Run out, get their attention, and then climb onto a fence or some other elevated position. This will let you easily handle the enemies without losing health.
You'll find yourself in a large room with many collapsed pillars and other objects. Fortunately, one table survived. There's a candle on it, so it's bound to catch your attention.
You'll find a key to the door and another part of the journal on the table. Pick them up and keep going.
Naevia's Journal vol. 3
Eventually, you'll reach the building's top floor. There's a ton of enemies here, we recommend to just run past them.
Climb out a hole in the wall once you see it. You'll need to quickly go across the vines. Turn them into gold to safely reach the other side.
You can easily avoid enemies by using the vines to change your height. Enemies can't climb walls, vines or even small platforms. Stand on the scaffolding and eliminate all enemies below you.
You'll reach a large room - there's a wooden desk in the middle, with a lit candle. There's a journal on the desk - take it.
Naevia
You're almost done now. You must keep moving towards the enemies who are getting more and more aggressive. You're bound to notice the blood that's spilled all over the palace.
In the next room you'll find a statue of a woman attached to a metal device. The statue is alive and feels pain.
Naevia will suddenly appear, accusing you of destroying her experiment. She'll be very hostile towards you.
You should know that you don't have to kill her. Simply select the dialogue options that don't say "Draw golden bow". Eventually you'll reach the correct dialogue options:
- "Wait! I can undo all this, if you tell me the treatment for rheumatism"
- "I can cover her in gold again".
Then turn around and shoot the woman, turning her into a statue again and ending her pain.
Once you have all the information you need, go outside and meet the doctor.
Lucretia
She will either be in the building where you've already seen her, or right in front of it. You need to direct the conversation in a specific way to get Willow Bark. You have to choose: "I figured out how to treat rheumatism...".
Rufius
To complete the task, you must find Rufius. It should be marked on the map. You will find it in two places: near the gardens or on the stairs, near the temple.
When you talk to him, just give him a cure for his rheumatism "About your rheumatism...". You'll complete the mission.
