After destroying all Greek gods it's time to confront Odin and his servants.
  1. Genre: brutal action-adventure hack and slash or how to use your axe to reach the top
  2. Worth playing, if: you want to check how the gameplay of one of the most important current-gen games looks like
  3. Don't play it, if: you don't like children, especially little boys who ask lots of questions, or if you're an immature boy
  4. Similar games: Rise of the Tomb Raider, Uncharted

God of War begins with a scene in which you have to cut down a tree with your axe – this is an intentional move. Kratos flexes his muscles and strikes the tree trunk with his axe over and over again until he surrenders to the violence of the Greek god. The axe serves our hero as a working tool and as a weapon to kill hundreds of mythological creatures taken directly from the Scandinavian mythology. This is the hallmark of the new installment of the God of War series. This time, the warrior of Sparta has moved a little further away from his family home than usual.

This symbolic distance is not only associated with the game's story, but also the gameplay style. By the latter, we mean the combat mechanics, which allow you to smash, crush and dismantle bodies of your enemies. Kratos is as violent as he used to be, but the battles, in which he participates, are somewhat smaller in scale. The camera follows the protagonist, showing his back and limiting the visibility of the battlefield to a minimum so that the player can feel the threat in a more tangible way. An unexpected attack can occur from any side. Sometimes even one (or two) normal opponent can cause problems. Also, you have to worry about your son...

That's not true. You don't have to bother about him at all. Atreus is a brilliant student who, during the travels between worlds, provides invaluable help and often saves Kratos' life.

God of War tells the story of a father and son. So much and so little at the same time. It's a brilliant story that doesn't contain even a single useless word. Because, apart from using powerful weapons (the Leviathan axe is not the only weapon used by Kratos), the relationship of an uncouth brute and a gentle boy is quite special from the very beginning of the game.

In 2022, we had the opportunity to pick up the ax again, also on PlayStation 4. God of War Ragnarok arrived on the previous-gen console at the same time as the PS5 version.
