Imperator: Rome. The best strategy games of 2019

Table of Contents

GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. Developer: Paradox Development Studio
  2. Publisher: Paradox Interactive
  3. Platforms: PC
  4. Premiere: 25 April

If instead of China you prefer an adventure closer to Europe and you are fond of Grand Strategies, you will be glad to play Imperator: Rome. In this game, you can become a Roman Emperor (or a ruler of a number of other nations from that period) and make all the difficult decisions that come with the office. Players have to form the system, science, culture, diplomacy, and army. The last aspect is not controlled by players directly, as in Total War games – here, one spends most of the time studying maps and stats.

The game was developed by genre veterans – Paradox Development Studio (an internal company of Paradox Interactive) and features complex nature, which might scare off some players. The game mostly resembles other productions of this developer, such as Europa Universalis and Crusader Kings.

IS IT REALLY THE BEST?

Many people say the game is in fact platform allowing the developers to profit from the DLC. Also the lack of differences between factions is being criticized. Still, we decided to put this game on our list, as our review score was high, and during the last 30 days over 80% of Steam reviews were positive – thus, the game is still very popular.
