Myth busters. Diablo 2: Tips and trivia from hardcore veterans
Table of Contents
Finally, let's debunk some popular myths about the game, because I still encounter players on servers who believe them. It doesn't make sense for any of you to bother with these during your game.
Myth #1 The portal to the Secret Cow Level will generate more enemies if the city portal book used to create it is full. False; this has been verified by people digging into the game files.
Myth #2 The Standard of Heroes (an item received when completing the Pandemonium event) protects you from losing experience points upon death. False, I tested it to be sure.
Myth #3 The Chat Gem (a pressable button in the game selection menu) increases our chances of finding magical items, finding more gems, or encountering shrines to upgrade these gems. False, also verified in the game files.
Myth #4 The rewards for destroying Mephisto's Soul Stone in the Infernal Forge are gems and a random rune from a range (depending on the difficulty level). Players believe that repairing earlier the hammer that falls from Hefasto's Forge Keeper will result in a chance for better rewards. False; dedicated players collected data from hundreds of trials, and calculations show no such relationship exists.
Myth #5 After the death of our character, the additional immunities received during a quest in act V don't apply again after recovering the body and the items. Simultaneously true and false; there was indeed a time when this was true, but it was fixed with the 2017 update. There is no longer the slightest reason to leave the game after our character dies.
Myth #6 The chance of finding magic items has a certain limited level that cannot be exceeded. False, but something like the law of diminishing returns should be applied here, when further increases in the percentage chance of finding magic items are gained at the expense of other stats, which reduces our damage and makes us kill fewer enemies as a result, thus getting fewer items in the process. I recommend stopping around 400-500% and investing in other stats.
Myth #7 Opponents killed by a meteor (sorceress' skill) do not guarantee any experience points for the team. False; in the early days of Diablo 2, using the meteor could randomly disconnect another player from the server, causing players to invent this myth so others would stop using this skill. Similar situations occurred when Hellfire Torches possessed by at least two players from the team released a firestorm spell at the same time. Both problems were fixed years ago, back in the original version of the game.

A player, a bad musician, an even worse person. By day I do bioinformatics and biophysics, by night I look for friends in numerous MMO titles or enjoy losing in roguelike games. In winter, I freeze off my feet sitting in front of the computer, am also a fan of chamomile with caramel – I personally do not recommend contact with this individual.
