What exactly is Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions?

It's a soccer game based on the wildly popular 1990s anime, which tells the story of the sports career of the young and talented Tsubasa Ozora, who is slowly climbing the ranks of the soccer career. The game features a number of characters known from the original. Teamsoft, the developers working on this game, have previously given us Battle Arena Toshinden, OneeChanbara and Senran Kagura.

What's gameplay like in Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions?

Captain Tsubasa is a soccer game that, unlike such series as FIFA or PES, doesn't attempt to be realistic. It's faithful to the anime original, and hence promotes the spectacle and high-octane, purely arcade gameplay with rules that are easy to master for everyone. The players are able to perform all sorts of crazy moves, punch holes in walls or tear the net. The game will offer both single and multiplayer gameplay.

OUR EXPECTATIONS

I'm not a big soccer fan. I do watch some games during the big, international tournaments, but I don't really follow the sport otherwise. That's because real soccer is unlike that in Captain Tsubasa, an anime that I watched and adored as a kid, like many of friends. That's the soccer I can understand.

Hence my interest in Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions. To be completely honest, I don't expect too much from this game. Teamsoft's game looks like a classic, uncomplicated game on a license, but it does look rather nice. In fact, I only expect a short, nostalgic trip into a long bygone era. And, of course, the ability to devastate the stadiums with powerful shots.
