Worms W.M.D.. Best games for kids – have fun and learn!
Table of Contents
Genre: turn-based, 2D platformer shooter
Target audience: siblings who own a single computer and have a hard time sharing it
Another "shooter" on the list that doesn't cause changes in the psyche and doesn't make children serial killers. Worms is a series of games established by Team17 in 1995. It combines elements of tight rivalry, shooting and spatial challenges that no other game can match.
The title characters are amiable worms who are not afraid to solve their problems with completely violent methods. The crawling earthworms have at their disposal a huge arsenal of not only conventional weapons (shotgun, dynamite, Bazooka, etc.), but also some more unusual ones – a rhino, a mad cow, or the Holy Hand Grenade. The game is based on a turn-based system – each of the worms has a certain time limit for moving and trying to shoot down a worm from the opposite team.
You can also collect bonus rewards, heal, and find additional weapons. All this is maintained in a very cheerful convention that doesn't expose young minds to realistic violence, instead giving them worms that turn into personalized tombstones. You can play against the computer, but the game is so much more fun when you play against friends or siblings on the same computer. So it's a great choice for all the siblings who only own one PC and have to share it with each other.
Worms aren't very difficult, but kids younger than seven may have a hard time figuring it out, especially since the game imposes time constraints.
