Description:

Dawn of War: Calamity is a Vanilla+ mod that delivers an enhanced classic Dawn of War experience. Everything you see has been very thoughtfully and deliberately put in place to improve and expand upon the original Dawn of War you are all familiar with. Calamity is not overly ambitious, and is in fact quite minimalist, with a quality over quantity approach.

Calamity does not feature a Campaign at this stage. Only Skirmish and Multiplayer is available.

FEATURES:

Balance & Gameplay

1. Overall gameplay has less of a focus on hard counters and more so of tactical application of units and abilities. A single type of unit (aside from some relic units) will no longer be able to destroy swathes of enemies with ease and immediately decide the outcome of a match. Correct unit positioning, army composition, timing and use of terrain are more rewarded in Calamity.
2. Damage and armor penetration has been fully reworked to behave more consistently and realistically while complying with lore as much as possible.
3. Health, damage, and armor has been rebalanced to lengthen kill times with the intention of prolonging firefights and granting time to allow for more moment-to-moment strategic decision making. A Hardcore mode will be available for those seeking kill times closer to vanilla.
4. Morale has been adjusted to be much more critical, as squads will no longer be able to reinforce and use most abilities when broken, making morale management much more important.
5. Races have been adjusted to have more explicit strengths and weaknesses, and to feel as unique as possible with their own special mechanics and playstyles.
6. In each race, all units have been made to have very defined roles and have some kind of usefulness on the battlefield. Having a diverse and well-rounded army is essential in Calamity as you can’t as easily get away with spamming individual types of units.
7. Each race has a handful of new units and structures, along with new and reworked upgrades.
8. More minute mechanics like cover usage and capture rates have been individualized for each unit to reinforce the playstyle of each race.
9. New mechanics have been introduced. For instance, generators now provide adjacency bonuses to encourage more thoughtful base building.
10. Abilities are generally much more prevalent, having greater effects and are often decisive in a tight engagement.
11. Maximum squad cap, support cap and Ork population has been increased. Squad cap, support cap, and Ork population usage has also been adjusted, as well as unit deployment limits.
12. AI has been reworked to be as efficient as possible and is more reflective of an actual player. The AI will still occasionaly make some strange tactical descisions, but they are usually quite ruthless and play effectively with the race they are controling.
13. Some maps have been tweaked to accommodate the additions and reworks of the mod.
14. Various fixes to legacy bugs and supposed oversights.

Audio and Visuals:

1. Many units have updated models and visual effects to give the game somewhat of a less outdated look while still retaining the original art style of Dawn of War.
2. A new User Interface has been implemented, along with updated UI descriptions for the additions and reworks of the mod.
3. Many sound effects have been enhanced to pack more of a punch and match updated visual effects.
4. Various combat dialogue has been added to create a much more diverse and intense soundscape during battle.
5. New units have come with their own set of command dialogue.
6. Audio and visuals have been generally refined to improve overall clarity and enhance feedback.
7. Performance has been optimized as much as possible.

Installation

Download and extract the latest version of Calamity.

Place the Calamity folder and Calamity.module file in your Soulstorm directory. Delete these two items from your directory first if updating to a new version.

Also place the Engine folder in your Soulstorm directory if you would like to see the Calamity splash screen. Overwrite when prompted.

Launch from Dawn of War Mod Manager or Game Manager in-game.
