Description:

The "Revised Edition" of Gothic 1 enhances the game with rebalancing, an upgraded theft system, and numerous bug fixes. This edition focuses on refining aspects that detracted from the gameplay experience and ups the difficulty level to challenge seasoned players, though an "Easy Mode" is available for those seeking a less daunting experience. The game remains true to its origins without adding new fan-made content, with the exception of a few diary entries, a letter, and some reactivated dialogues that stay faithful to the original script. Minimal changes were made to items, including some model and texture swaps, and adjustments like the dragonroot now offering permanent bonuses. The edition incorporates fixed armors by Bloodfly91 and tweaks to some spell scroll textures, ensuring compatibility with most graphical enhancements.

Key Improvements:

1. Eradication of numerous bugs affecting AI, object placement, dialogue logic, and more.
2. Enhanced theft system enabling more rewarding pickpocketing, improved NPC reactions to theft, and the requirement to learn lockpicking.
3. Gameplay rebalancing for increased difficulty, making two-handed weapons more effective from the start.
4. Traders are now immune to robbery.
5. Improved quest failure recognition and tracking in the diary, allowing for continuation without guild affiliation if admission quests for all camps are failed.
6. Removal of illogical story constraints, enabling earlier access to the Sleeper's temple and allowing for story shortcuts without gameplay issues, though exploiting bugs to bypass locked gates can still cause problems.
7. Various other minor adjustments.

Gameplay Notes:

1. Players can utilize permanent bonuses at any point.
2. Characters outside of guilds and Shadows can learn the first stage of two-handed combat from Thorus.
3. Second stage one-handed combat training requires camp membership.
4. Pickpocketing and lockpicking skills have one level each.
5. NPCs will confront the player with a warning upon the first instance of being caught pickpocketing, escalating to aggression on subsequent attempts.
