Find oil, vinegar and some gold, and give them to Red Edison | Walkthrough Day of the Tentacle: Remastered Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Get oil and wine
Leave Red Edison's lab and head up the stairs. You will notice a portrait of Max (a character from Sam & Max) in the corridor. Go further right and open the third door. Go inside. You will find yourself in Benjamin Franklin's room. Take the wine bottle standing on the chest near the door. Leave the room and go down the stairs, to the lobby. Open the double door and go inside the room with a fireplace. To the left of it, you will find the door to the kitchen. Go there and take spaghetti and oil - one of the ingredients that you need.
Make vinegar
On the right, there is a door to a storage room. Go inside and take the bucket from the floor. Open the wardrobe and take the brush. Now, go back to the room with fireplace and give the Wine Bottle to Thomas Jefferson. You will learn that he wants to use it in his time capsule. After several hundred years, the win will turn into vinegar, which is the second ingredient required to make a super-battery. Approach the fireplace and climb to the roof. Go inside through the first window and take red paint. Open the trapdoor and go down the stairs, to the lobby.
Go outside the house and head right, to the place where you gained control over Hoagie after stepping out of the time capsule. You will find a kumquat tree. Use red paint to paint the fruits. Go back to the motel and talk to George Washington, who is standing by the window.
- Whoa, you're like George Washington!
- I bet you've lost it. You couldn't cut down a tree to save your grandmother.
As a result of the dialogue presented above, Washington will decide to cut down the tree, thinking that it's a cherry tree. This event will have its consequences in the present, where Laverne is. The hero will finally go down from the tree on which she was sitting after her time travel. NOTE! From now on, you can switch between all three characters whenever you want. You can do it by clicking the appropriate icon on the right side of the inventory menu.
Switch to Laverne. You will find yourself in a room that looks like a prison cell. Three future members of Dr Fred's family are here. Talk to the guard and tell him that you feel sick, by choosing the following dialogue option:
Ooh... I don't feel so good...
The guard will take you to the doctor. After a short examination, he will tell you that you're fine. When the doctor leaves, you will have some time to take the tentacle chart. Leave the room and you will find yourself in a futuristic version of the lobby, with the characteristic clock. Talk to the guard again, but this time, tell him that you need to go to the bathroom. Choose the following dialogue option:
I have to go to the bathroom!
When you leave the cell, go right along the path and you will reach Chron-O-John. Send tentacle chart to Hoagie by clicking on the chart and then on Hoagie.
Switch to Hoagie and go back to the motel. Go up the stairs. Open the second door and go inside to find yourself in a seamstress' room. Tell her that you've brought a new pattern of a flag (the only available dialogue option). You can choose the rest dialogue options as you wish. Use the tentacle chart on the pattern on the table. You will provoke another change in the future. The American flag will be changed to a flag with tentacle.
Now, return to Bernard and after talking to Dr Fred, go up the stairs, to the lobby and then further up, to the first floor. Open the second door. Unfortunately, you won't be able to go inside. The door is locked with a chain and Dwayne is sitting on the bed with a gun near his head. You can talk to him, but you won't be able to convince him to open the door. Before you go away, take disappearing ink from the table near the door.
Open the last door in the corridor and go inside. You will see a green tentacle in the room. Talk to it and take the videotape lying on the stereo set. Leave the room and go up the stairs, to the attic. Open the door on the right and go inside a room with a window. From the room, go to the roof. You will see a crank. Take it and send it to Laverne. .
Switch to Laverne and return to the guard waiting outside the motel. You will find yourself back in the cell. Talk to the guard again and tell him that you feel sick, by choosing the following dialogue option:
Oooh... I don't feel so good...
You will find yourself back in the doctor's office. Leave the office, go to the lobby and then to the room with a fireplace (the door with red signs, under the banner). Go to the roof. Place the crank in the crank box and push it to lower the tentacle flag. Take the flag and use it. Laverne will wear it as a costume. Take the crank also and go down through the chimney. Head to the lobby.
Dressed as a tentacle, you can go past the guard safely. Go up the stairs. Go through the first door and switch to Hoagie. Find can-opener in your inventory and send it to Laverne. Now, switch back to Laverne and use the opener on the time capsule that Thomas Jefferson worked on. Inside, you will find a wine bottle that Hoagie placed there 400 years earlier. During this time, the wine turned into vinegar. Take it and send to Hoagie so that he can give it to Red Edison.
Get gold and give the components to Edison
Switch to Hoagie and go back to the room with fireplace. There is a gold-plated quill pen on Jefferson's desk, but if you try to take it, you will be noticed. Talk to John Hancock and choose the following dialogue options:
- Whassup? You cold?
- Why don't you build a fire?
The rest of the conversation doesn't matter. From the dialogue, you will learn that Jefferson will not light the fire unless there is a good reason for it. You have to distract the founding father so that you can take the quill. Leave the motel and approach the mailbox. After opening it, you will find a letter addressed to Benjamin Franklin. Take it and send it to Bernard.
Switch to Bernard and go back to the first floor of the motel. Give the letter to Dwayne through the ajar door to the second room. You will make him run out of the room. Go inside and take the flag gun from the bed. Go downstairs, to the lobby and open the door to the room with fireplace. Approach a desk located under a Rubber Chicken (a character from The Secret of Monkey Island game) poster. Use the flag gun on the cigar lighter to switch them. Talk to the seller and select the following dialogue options:
- Nice cigars!
- Sure, lay one of those Havanan babies on me.
If you forgot to switch the guns, the cigar will explode at Bernard's face. If you did switch them, you get to keep it. Go to the left side of the room and open the grating located near the fireplace. Go back to the seller and you will see chattering teeth on a barrel to your right. If you come close to it, the teeth will start running away. Try to make it reach the grating and you will be able to put it inside your inventory. Now, send the cigar, the gun and the teeth to Hoagie.
Switch to Hoagie and return to the room with fireplace. Give exploding cigar to George Washington and wait until it rids him of his teeth. Give him chattering teeth. Hancock and Jefferson, seeing that Washington is rattling his teeth, will decide to light the fire. When it gets warmer in the room, pick up the blanket dropped by Hancock and head to the attic (you can't reach the roof through the fireplace as the fire is burning). Go to the roof through the window and use the blanket on the chimnet. The smoke will go back to the room and the founding fathers will leave the room. Now you can go back and take the gold-plated quill pen.
Now that you have all the ingredients required to create the super-battery, go back to Red Edison's lab through the clock. Give him the oil, vinegar and gold-plated quill pen. When the scientist finishes his work, take the battery that he created.
