In the game we can stand at the head of the Undead Horde, which we could control in the earlier installments of the series. The story was created by Ekaterina Stadnikova, a writer who has been writing stories set in the series' universe for years.

Dead State takes place in a world filled with zombies. The protagonist leads a group that defends a save haven for the few survivors left from the American city Splendid. The gameplay focuses on searching for resources (food, medications and weapons) and repelling zombie attacks.
