Fans of Original XCOM Finally Got a Release Date for Xenonauts 2
The developers of Xenonauts 2 ended up with a very long „soon,” but their creation (inspired by the first XCOM) is finally heading for early access.
"Soon" is one of those words that can just as easily mean "within a day or so" as "in the next decade." To confirm this thesis, we have the example of the developers of Xenonauts 2 announcing the start of early access on July 18. The game will hit Steam, GOG.com and Epic Games Store.
The information was revealed in a post by publisher Hooded Horse on Twitter and in a short trailer, which you can watch below.
The developers mentioned the imminent reveal of the Early Access release date almost a month ago in an announcement posted on Steam. So you could say that they kept their word... if it weren't for the fact that Xenonauts 2 was supposed to hit early access as "soon" as 2019. Moreover, in a recent, March announcement the devs assured of the debut taking place in the second quarter of 2023. So we are dealing with (another) delay.
In fairness, we should add that the developers have by no means been silent for the past four and a half years. On Steam there have been regular announcements from Goldhawk Interactive, in which the team reported on the progress of the game. In addition, the developer released further experimental versions of Xenonauts 2 to people who backed the project as part of a campaign on Kickstarter.
Nevertheless, fans of tactical strategies may run out of time. Premiere of Xenonauts 2 in early access will coincide with the release of Jagged Alliance 3, which will debut on the market on July 14.
As an aside: system requirements for Xenonauts 2 have remained almost unchanged. Whether they will remain so until the game's release in Steam Early Access, we will find out "soon".
