XCOM is Definitely Not Dead, Director Claims
Jake Solomon from Firaxis Games has reassured fans that the XCOM brand will not be abandoned.
Yesterday during the Summer Game Fest a lot of time was devoted to Marvel's Midnight Suns. A new release date was revealed and a fresh trailer was presented. Many fans of the studio responsible for the project, Firaxis, are worried about the future of the XCOM series. The creators decided to calm them down, assuring that the brand will not be abandoned.
Jake Solomon, the designer and director of XCOM: Enemy Unknown and XCOM 2, as well as Marvel's Midnight Suns said in an interview for VGC that the XCOM brand "is not dead" and as long as he is alive and Firaxis exists, the series will continue to be developed.
Such a declaration means that there are high chances that after the completion of work on Marvel's Midnight Suns Firaxis will return to XCOM.
Recall that the latest main installment of the series remains XCOM 2 from 2016. In 2017, the War of the Chosen DLC was released, and two years ago a spin-off hit the market in the form of XCOM: Chimera Squad.
Fans may have been a little worried, as the power of Marvel is so great that developers working on games under this license may find it hard to return to their own, less popular brands afterwards. XCOM is, however a strong series (the latest main installment found 500,000 buyers in just two weeks after its release on Steam), so it's hard to imagine Firaxis Games abandoning it.
