Players Slam WoW for Boring Cinematic: 'Is That It?'
The cutscene after the final boss raid of Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight did not delight the fans. The video seems to have been cut off in the middle and lacks emotional or important narrative weight.
The 10.1 Embers of Neltharion update is on the servers, and with it comes an all-new raid called Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible. At the end of this instance, consisting of 9 bosses, Scalecommander Sarkareth awaits. After defeating him, a cutscene is triggered, showing the consequences of defeating the boss.
Often such a procedure has led to epic events, as in the case of defeating Kil'Jaeden in Legion or at the end of Azshara's Eternal Palace in Battle for Azeroth. This time, however, it's different and the finale of the battle against Scalecommander Sarkareth disappointed many players (via WoWHead).
The cinematic from Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible did not meet the demands of fans
When Scalecommander Sarkareth's life points drop to 0, a cutscene is activated showing the end of the clash and its consequences - that's how it usually was. Watching the footage, which lasts almost 40 seconds, players witness the boss' monologue at Neltharion/Deathwing.. This is suggested by the word "father" at the very beginning. When Sarkareth finishes his speech, he falls and that's the end. Nothing more is shown.
A sizable number of commenters, including on WoWHead and YouTube, have said that the scene shown is anti-climatic, boring or simply weak. Over the years, Blizzard has proven that it can create cutscenes that build the expectations of fans, who immediately want more. This time it's different, but of course there's no shortage of people happy with the calmer and perhaps more uplifting tone.
One user said that the raid generally presents a story that, from the level of the plot of the entire add-on, is not important. Also, there have been earlier leaks suggesting that the community shouldn't expect anything thrilling. This may indicate Blizzard's narrative turnaround, as for the past few years it was the raids that drove the story of World of Warcraft and presented the most important events.
All is not lost, however. Perhaps the dying Sarkareth really did speak to Deathwing. The corrupted fallen aspect was so connected to the Void that he ended up there after his death in the Cataclysm DLC. The monologue of the last Aberrus boss may be a foreshadowing that the enemy players have known since the days of Warcraft 2 will return.
