The seventh installment of Sid Meier's Civilization disappointed many fans of the series. Only 50% of players rate the title on Steam positively, and there are fewer of them than for the previous part. Developers from Firaxis Games studio have already started fixing the game, releasing several updates. However, they have now published plans for the future, which may help them regain the trust of fans.

The next update, 1.1.0, will be released next week, on March 4th. It will introduce:

  1. a new wonder of nature to discover - Bermuda Triangle;
  2. improvements to the heavily criticized user interface;
  3. major changes in the path and victory of cultural heritage in the modern era;
  4. option to convert Holy Cities in the Age of Discovery;
  5. possibility of dispersing independent coastal forces by navy units;
  6. changes in a few souvenirs.

The full list of changes will be published after the update is released. Along with it, the first half of the paid collection Crossroads of the World will also launch.

We will have to wait until March 25 for the next update marked with number 1.1.1 (although this date may change). It will introduce another wonder of nature - Mount Everest - as well as further improvements to the user interface. Besides, the artificial intelligence and map generation will be improved, and players will also receive a fast travel function and the option to change the name of the city and commanders. The second half of the Crossroads of the World collection will also hit the game.

In April, Firaxis will release the 1.2.0 update, which will further improve the user interface and add, among other things, a "one more turn" button, allowing gameplay after the end of the modern age, research queuing, and new types of resources.

Plans include innovations like extra map sizes, automatic exploration, modding tools, hotseat multiplayer, and further enhancements to AI and the user interface.

It must be admitted that the developers have planned a long list of new features, giving players something to look forward to. It's just a shame that most of these things weren't in the game on the day of its release.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII was released on February 11, 2025, on PC, PS4, PS5, XOne, XSX/S, and Nintendo Switch.
