Windows 10 20H1 - New Notification System and Other Changes
Microsoft presented a number of changes that will appear in Windows 10 with another large update, which should debut in the first quarter of 2020.
Microsoft informed about the novelties and changes that will be introduced to Windows 10 along with another large update - it is likely to debut in the first quarter of next year. We will receive a lot of new and useful features that should improve the comfort of using this operating system.
Changes to the network settings screen
We will get, among other things, an improved network settings screen, which will display noticeably more information about our network connections, as well as allow us to keep track of the amount of data used by individual applications and set a top-down limit, after exceeding which you will lose connection to the network. This can be very useful for people with restricted Internet access (e.g. using a laptop or mobile Internet).
We will also be able to limit transfer to Delivery Optimization, a feature that downloads and uploads data over P2P network to speed up the download of system updates or programs from the Microsoft store. In this case, you get the option to set a maximum transfer speed, but the values can be different for background downloads and foreground downloads.
New notification system
There is also a new notification system - on each tile with this type of information we will find a button that will allow us to quickly adjust the settings for notifications from a given program or completely disable them. The company has also changed the way notifications are sorted in the menu (at the top of the list are the applications that recently sent them), and added a useful switch to turn off the sound. Additionally, the button leading to this screen is placed in the Action Center.
But that's not all - Microsoft will also introduce the Focus Assist function. It will allow for the complete exclusion of notifications for a certain period of time in situations where we really need to focus. We will also be able to reject / dismiss the displayed notification by clicking on the middle mouse button.
Better calculator and calendar
The calculator application will change a lot - it will receive a highly useful "always on top" mode, which will facilitate calculations without interrupting the work in another program (did we really have to wait for it that long...?). It is worth noting that after activating this function, the calculator's interface will be slim enough to take up less space on the screen.
Microsoft's developers will also improve the Windows 10 calendar. Finally, we will be able to quickly and easily add notes or events to it - all we need to do is type something in the box visible after we click on a day. This option exists now but requires us to open a separate screen, which is not particularly convenient.
Login without password
The last useful change is the passwordless login switch. The option will appear in the menu (Accounts -> Login options). Once the feature is activated for all Microsoft accounts associated with our computer, we will only be able to log in using alternative methods such as Windows Hello, fingerprint, face recognition or PIN code. It is worth noting that the option of logging in without a password is already available - however, you have to configure it from the level of individual MS accounts and is only one of the options. After the update we will be able to force this login.
