Some older players might remember times when launchers like Steam, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, and others did not exist. All there was to do, was to insert an ancient data carrier like diskette or CD into its proper bay in PC, install it, and play with no strings attached. Today, we are connected to our virtual game libraries managed by large companies, so it can come as a shock to some that not all productions are bound to those platforms. The Dark Queen of Mortholme, an interesting anti-game, as described by its creator, is a short title that exists outside of the claws of launchers. Despite that, many fans would like to know if it will ever make its way onto Steam, to play it easily on Steam Deck, for example. Let’s see what the chances are.

Is The Dark Queen of Mortholme coming to Steam?

Sometimes, an unexpected happens – a game acclaimed by many is released, but it’s nowhere to be found on any of the major platforms. There is nothing inherently wrong with this, yet as soon as title’s popularity spikes, many of the new fans ask for a version that is distributed by Steam, EGS, or others. And yes, currently The Dark Queen of Mortholme is not available on Steam. Can we expect it there, though?

We have to keep in mind that it is a short title with a finished story. The creator might not want to invest their time any further into what has already been done and simply leave it as is. Being a bit more optimistic, the success of the Queen of Mortholme on itch.io might be a spark that will push the dev to expand its reach. It is a common path for many indie games that show promise.

The solo-developer, Mosu, doesn’t seem to be very active on social accounts shared on their itch.io profile. This makes it rather hard to deduce what is planned for this title in the future. We can be certain of one thing though – leaving comments and asking to widen the platform reach can bring the desired effect. It can happen that sudden popularity rise of this game will push Mosu to consider such possibility.
