Whip and blade are all you need in City of Brass, an upcoming indie action game
If you liked combat in BioShock, Dishonored or Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, you might want to get acquainted with City of Brass, an upcoming action game from indie developer Uppercut Games.
An interesting first-person action game has been announced by the Australian indie studio Uppercut Games (creators of an easy-going exploration game, Submerged). What makes this one noteworthy is a combat system that makes you think of Dishonored, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic or the original BioShock.
City of Brass is going to put you in the shoes of a thief, who has to make his way through the legendary city filled with fantastic monsters and deadly traps. His basic equipment is a blade and a whip – the latter can be used to “disarm, trip or stun enemies, to swing to safety, grab inaccessible objects or even break through flimsy barricades”, says the developer. City of Brass will offer quite a challenge for the players, featuring permadeath – each time you die, the city is generated from scratch, which will require you to master the systems and prove ingenuity in combat. This is what RockPaperShotgun learned from project lead Ed Orman:
We’ve taken particular inspiration from the potential of games like BioShock to generate combinative combat situations. For example, you can use the whip to stun an enemy before slicing them with your scimitar; or you can run, slide and push them into a trap; or bait one enemy such that in its rabid desire to kill you, it actually destroys other enemies nearby. We think City of Brass will generate a ton of cool combat moments.”
City of Brass is going to launch this fall on Steam.
