We'll have to wait longer for second Diablo 4 expansion. Blizzard's ambitious plan falls short
Diablo 4 won't receive another expansion a year after Vessel of Hatred. The next expansion will not appear in the game's development plans, which Blizzard will soon reveal.

Diablo 4 won't receive another expansion until 2026, contrary to previous announcements.
Rod Fergusson, responsible at Blizzard Entertainment studio for the Diablo brand, shared this information during a panel at this year's DICE conference in Las Vegas, as reported by Jason Schreier (via BlueSky) who was present at the event.
So it seems that the developer has withdrawn from previous plans. These assumed that after last year's Vessel of Hatred, players would only have to wait a year for the second expansion to Diablo IV. Ferguson assured in 2023 that work was already underway on both expansions.
There is currently no information about the reasons for this delay. Perhaps this is related to the reception of Vessel of Hatred, appreciated by players for its mechanics and improvements, but not necessarily for its narrative layer (although players aren't entirely in agreement in their assessment of this element).
Some fans are hopeful that Blizzard has chosen to spend more time on developing the first expansion to ensure it is more successful than the first one. Nevertheless, they also expect the company to confirm further development plans.
And apparently, this will happen soon, as Fergusson also announced the imminent publication of the Diablo 4 roadmap for 2025. In this context, the developer mentioned the second DLC - specifically, that it will be missing from this roadmap (via PC Gamer).
