It is undeniable that Mariska Hargitay is the star of Law & Order: SVU. The actress has starred in the production since its first season, which premiered 26 years ago. Hargitay has been associated with the procedural TV series ever since, in which she plays the role of Olivia Benson.

And as she confessed during an interview with Today, she had long predicted that Law & Order: Special Victims Unit would be a great success. In early 2000, the actress recognized that the series “had something” and success was destined for it.

The key was supposed to be her bond with Chris Meloni, who plays Elliot Stabler in Law & Order: SVU.

Well, I knew quickly that we had this kind of magical chemistry. I knew that, because I felt it, and we were so close so fast. And again, it’s that thing we talked about, of that thing that happens with somebody where you’re like, “We are so different, and I know you, and I get it, all of it.”

The relationship of these two, who represented completely different approaches through their characters, is indeed one of the most attractive elements of the TV series. Behind the dynamics of Benson and Stabler is supposed to be the “genius” of Dick Wolf's TV show, according to Hargitay.

I think that the genius of the conception of my show was the architecture of the angry, protective father and the nurturing, loving, empathetic mother, right, between us.

Hargitay was not wrong years ago, Law & Order: SVU was indeed very successful, the TV series has remained on the air for 26 years for good reason, still enjoying the interest of viewers.
