Blizzard is Preparing New Projects in the Warcraft Universe
Players may be (temporarily?) abandoning World of Warcraft, but Blizzard isn't abandoning its development plans for Azeroth. The company is preparing two new Warcraft games.
Blizzard is working on two new Warcraft games. This information was provided on the occasion of the recent investor call, discussing the latest financial results of Activision Blizzard (via Fool.com). Both titles are already at the internal testing stage.
If we were to end this news with the above paragraph, one could think that Blizzard is trying to appease the players, who as a result of recent controversies have started harboring more dislike towards World of Warcraft ("more", because there have already been complaints about the game earlier). There's just one small problem. Both titles mentioned during the investor call are mobile productions. In theory, there's nothing wrong with that - we're long past the times when all such projects were, at best, poor relatives of "real" games. However, it's enough to recall the "enthusiasm" of players after the announcement of Diablo Immortal to guess their reaction to Blizzard's new announcement.
Of course, in the end it all depends on what exactly are the game we're talking about. Unfortunately, Blizzard revealed virtually no details. It was only mentioned that the mobile Warcraft games are supposed to attract new players to the series and "offer existing fans new ways to experience" the franchise. So it doesn't seem that the series is being prepared for a return to RTS games. We should learn more "soon".
