Vampyr gamescom 2016 gameplay shows how every decision you make matters
Vampyr, Dontnod Entertainment’s action RPG, has been showcased on this year’s gamescom. We’ve learned that you’ll have to carefully choose your victims, for the consequences of killing everybody might cause more harm than you would expect.
A doctor trying to save London residents from becoming vampires by day, a vampire feeding on Londoners by night. Meet Jonathan Reid, Vampyr’s protagonist, and a perfectly coherent life he’s living. Having appeared on gamescom 2016, Mr. Reid has shown us a few of his special abilities (such as blink-ish teleportation), his combat proficiency, and the way he breaks the Hippocratic Oath by feeding on people. You can take a look at his performance below.
Mr. Reid’s spokesmen, Dontnod Entertainment (aka the devs), attended the presentation to account for his actions. Firstly, they assured us that Vampyr won’t be an episodic game in the vein of the previous title the devs worked on, Life is Strange. They then proceeded to explain Mr. Reid’s behavior, and it goes something like that: Mr. Reid has to kill in order to survive, but if he doesn’t, he won’t necessarily die – it will only make him a bit (which means a lot) less powerful, so he won’t be able to develop his special vampire abilities at a rate of knots.
On the bright side (no pun intended), London’s decay effectuated by the Spanish flu won’t progress so rapidly, for more healthy residents will be able to carry on living. That’s also the reason why Mr. Reid should in fact keep away from causing any harm to anybody – the more he kills, the more severe the consequences become, but what he does eventually is entirely up to him.
The devs have also lifted the veil off Vampyr’s release date – it’s coming sometime in 2017 to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
