It is time to enter a new generation of digital worlds - the full version of Unreal Engine 5 has launched today. This information was revealed during the live broadcast of the State of Unreal 2022.
- Unreal Engine 5 is available for free download. We have written about its most important features in this news from 11 months ago.
Along with the engine debuted two free sample projects, which are to help users get used to the new technology.
The first of them is Lyra Starter Game. In its description we read:
"Lyra Starter Game is a sample gameplay project built alongside UE5 development to serve as an excellent starting point for creating new games. We plan to continue to upgrade it with future releases to demonstrate our latest best practices.
(...) it demonstrates scalability from mobile to high-end PC and cross-play multiplayer using Epic Online Services (EOS), and features a choice of two different game modes: Expanse (team deathmatch) and Convolution (control point)."
The second project is called City Sample. It is a model of the city from The Matrix Awakens tech demo, but without any references to the movie.
Unreal Engine 5 is backward compatible with projects created on Unreal Engine 4.26 and 4.27.
