Unforgiving Fantasy FFP Game Dark and Darker in Testing
Dark, punishing, challenging and rewarding for risk - this is what the PvPvE game Dark and Darker, developed by the independent studio IRONMACE, is supposed to be. There is still a lot of time left until its release, but the developers are regularly conducting tests, which you can sign up for on Steam.
2023 promises to be an excellent year for gamers. One of the titles that can contribute to this is the first-person PvPvE dungeon crawler titled Dark and Darker. It is being developed by independent Korean studio IRONMACE. The game is expected to be released in the fourth quarter of 2023 (though the date is more of a placeholder) on PC - for now, only its presence on Steam has been confirmed.
Darkness and steep curve
What distinguishes Dark and Darker - at least "on paper" - are the darkness and steep learning curve with which the devs advertise the game. In theory, it is a typical dungeon crawler, in which one chooses one of several available character classes (for now, a warrior, barbarian, wizard, cleric, tracker, rogue or bard have been announced) and together with friends, in a party of three, we delve into the darkness of a mystical underground fortress.
Plunder and escape
Our goal is to find and bring out as much loot as possible. The first part of the task will be significantly complicated by various monsters, as well as teams of other players that will compete with ours. When battling them we will use a vast arsenal of melee and ranged weapons, as well as magic - the key to success is supposed to be a good mastery of the combat system and precision. Our friend will also be the darkness, which will serve both as a hiding spot and a place to set traps.
The second part of the job is to be much more difficult, as it will consist in getting out of the underground as quickly as possible and carrying away the treasures. It will be necessary to find hidden escape routes, which will bring the players closer to leaving the ever-expanding darkness that would like to keep its treasures and the corpses of the daredevils trying to get them.
Portals as shortcuts
In other words, danger is expected to lurk at every turn, and with greater risk will come correspondingly greater profit. Measuring your strength against the odds, however, will prove crucial, as in the event of death, players will lose all the loot they have collected. A kind of facilitation will be portals, the unlocking of which will enable us to start the next game from a lower location, in order to delve even further into the darkness of the mystical underground fortress.
Testing continues
If the above description has interested you, know that closed alpha testing of Dark and Darker is currently ongoing, which you can sign up for by sending the developer a request for access. To do so, simply select the appropriate option on the game's card on Steam. The current tests end tomorrow, but the next session will take place next month - on October 28-30.
