Ubisoft Will Burn Virtual Forests to Draw Attention to Climate Change
As part of the noble campaign called Playing for the Planet, fans will be able to save burning forests thanks to Riders Republic.
It's no secret that many years of unfettered, destructive human activity have left our beloved planet in an increasingly deteriorated state. Therefore, it is extremely important to inform people about the disastrous impact of certain activities devastating the Earth. In addition, it is worth educating them about methods to help our blue home. As the video game market is a powerful and far-reaching industry, Ubisoft intends to use its games to save the Earth from annihilation.
A noble initiative
The French company's efforts are part of the noble initiative called Playing for the Planet Alliance, organized by the United Nations. As part of it major corporations such as Microsoft, Sega, Sony, Bandai Namco and the aforementioned Ubisoft have pledged to put "green incentives into their games" and reduce their carbon footprint.
Learning through entertainment
According to information published on the official website of Playing for the Planet, thanks to the crazy sports game released last year Riders Republic players will be made aware of the increasingly common forest fires.
One of the title's future updates will make users who launch the game see an orange sky streaked with suffocating smoke, with their character wearing an oxygen mask. Due to flames consuming part of the map, the area will become unaccessible. The players will be tasked with working together to stop the spreading fires.
In addition, Riders Republic will receive an improved photo mode, which will introduce the function of displaying real scientific data, so that users will identify the most vulnerable and flammable areas of Sequoia National Park.. Then, as part of the game, they will carry out activities to protect the forest from disaster. These will include covering tree trunks with protective film and removing flammable objects from paths.
The aforementioned changes to the game are expected to take place at the end of this year. Interestingly, Riders Republic players will not be warned in advance, so the update will come as a surprise.
