Try Out 35 Year Old Windows Build In Emulator

Windows 1.0 is over 35 years old. The emulator developed by developers on the initiative of PCJs Machines enables us to check its appearance and functions.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. A few days ago, Windows 1.0 celebrated its 35th birthday;
  2. AN emulator created by programmers from PCJs Machines enables us to check the appearance and features of Microsoft's old operating system.

The first version of Windows - the so-called Windows 1.0 - recently celebrated its 35th birthday (the software appeared on the market exactly on November 20, 1985). If we want to see what this system looked like, we can use the free browser-based emulator prepared by programmers focused around the PCJs Machines initiative.

The software uses Javascript and recreates the commercial version of the discussed Windows build, i.e. 1.01. The original Windows 1.0 was a test program - a kind of beta version of the release recreated by PCJs Machines - and was never made available to the customers. The emulator enables us to check the interface ("a little bit" different from modern standards), as well as some simple applications such as a clock, board, paint or list.

We can even play a few simple games, such as Castle Adventure or Reversi. What's interesting is that many of the applications are recreated on images of floppy disks (in those days, the drive "A" meant a reader of this type of media) with a staggering size of... 360 kilobytes.
