Titanfall 2 Revives With Mysterious New Gameplay Mode
The somewhat forgotten Titanfall 2 has received a surprise update fixing a number of bugs and adding a new game mode. Fans speculate whether we are dealing with a gradual return of the brand.
Released in late 2016 Titanfall 2 managed to gather a dedicated group of fans over the years. Satisfying gameplay, wall-running mechanics, the titular mechas and a surprisingly ambitious single-player mode meant that many years after its release, the work of Respawn Entertainment is remembered with fondness.
Unfortunately, recent years have not been kind to the aging title. The cancellation of the third installment and lack of publisher's interest in the franchise meant that the burden of keeping the game alive fell on the shoulders of the most dedicated community members and modders.
Recently, however, the forgotten title has seen some unexpected updates from the developer.. Although the details of the venture remain a mystery, fans speculate that we may be witnessing a gradual "resurrection" of the series.
A handful of fixes and a mysterious rocket mode
The recent years, difficult for Titanfall 2, have been marked by problems with matchmaking and rogue players. However, the recent updates have significantly improved the player experience in online modes, and offered a number of subtle fixes.
Internet user McManus26 in his post on Reddit summarized the most important changes the title has received in recent days. Among them were:
- fixing the matchmaking system;
- the full release of the private match mode (which had been in beta for years);
- minor fixes related to bugs, popular exploits and the shape of some maps;
- updating the rotating list of game modes.
There was also considerable excitement over the addition of a mysterious new play mode, listed in the menu as "???". In turn, the description of the mode is a reference to Frank Miller's comic book 300:
"Your rockets will blot out of the sun."
According to these words, the new variant of the game puts into the hands of players a sizeable arsenal of rockets to wreak havoc and destruction.
Perceptive players have also pointed out an interesting easter egg in the recent list of changes for Apex Legends. According to fans, the cryptic "Transmissions" are meant to be a reference to the release dates of both parts of Titanfall and Apex Legends.
Suffice it to say that a number of recent changes, fixes, news, as well as the the recent discounting of Titanfall 2 on Steam, have breathed a second life into this aging title. According to data from SteamDB the average number of active players has increased more than tenfold..
Although the purpose of the aforementioned activities still remains a mystery, many gamers have turned their eyes to the somewhat forgotten brand with curiosity. The next few weeks will show what future awaits the well-liked FPS series.
