After a period of Early (Advanced) Access, Throne and Liberty is finally free-to-play for everyone. Hundreds of thousands (via SteamDB) of people logged in to try out the game created by Korean MMORPG veterans, NCsoft. Not all of the players were lucky enough to join the title, as obviously, the servers were not ready to handle such number of fans wanting to check out this production. There is, however, other issue not allowing some less lucky of us to give TaL a shot – “out of video memory” error. What’s causing it? Can it be fixed? Let’s find out!

Out of video memory error in Throne and Liberty explained

Imagine the scenario of buying a high-end computer, splurging a considerable amount of money on it, and there are still errors informing about running out of video memory. What gives? Is the world going crazy? Well… kind of. If this is an error that you have encountered, chances are that you are using 13th or 14th generation of Intel CPUs. It can be a bit worrying, as the problem is not related to the Throne of Liberty itself or how the developers created it. Let me explain.

Despite informing about lack of video memory, this problem is not caused by GPU but CPU. It has been acknowledged by Intel and it was confirmed to be related to instability of said generation of processors. Fortunately, they haven’t left the customers hanging and offered some help alongside, at least partial, solution.

Long story short, it is caused by a mix of specific BIOS settings combined with high clock rates and power usage of affected CPUs. The crucial thing to do right now is to update your motherboard’s BIOS by going to its manufacturer’s official website and downloading the latest version of it. Nowadays, the process of updating BIOS is rather straightforward and usually requires only running a specific executable, yet for more precise information, refer to the instructions provided by the manufacturer.

Console players are not unaffected by issues, too, as some of them are experiencing a bug that doesn’t allow them to play the game at all. Additionally, only fans equipped with the latest generation devices can enjoy this title, as older are not supported. We can only hope that every problem will eventually find its solution allowing more people to venture in the world of Solisium. Good luck!
