Three Years After Launch, Age of Empires 4 Prepares for New DLC. 2025 Will Bring Plenty of Content to Popular RTS
Age of Empires 4 is finally getting another DLC, and 2025 is expected to bring a lot of content to this RTS.
Age of Empires 4 is already three years old and will receive another DLC. Relic Entertainment and World’s Edge thanked the fans for their support and once again confirmed that the fourth installment of the iconic strategy game series will receive its next expansion in 2025 (via X).
No exact date or deadline was provided, nor were any hints left as to the theme of the expansion. However, earlier, on the occasion of the debut of the 9th season of AoE 4, it was confirmed that more information about next year's expansion will be available "in the new year", so in early January. In this announcement it was also confirmed that the fourth Age of Empires will receive a ton of content in 2025.
The title definitely needs such an injection of novelty. Although the game was well received at its premiere, the reviews on Steam from the last 30 days are only half positive (53% "thumbs up"). A glance at AoE 4's product card shows that the problems started on October 23rd with the debut of the new update and the 9th season.
You don't have to spend a long time reading the latest reviews to notice the complaints. Mainly because of the changes introduced by the devs, although – funnily enough – they include accusations of both too much and too little similarity to Age of Empires 2. There are also often mentions of AI (which is supposedly too good even at low difficulty levels), game balance (mainly in relation to siege weapons), and problems in multiplayer mode (cheaters, people frequently leaving the game, etc.).
Some internet users blame the creators for "not listening to the players", while others point to the grumbling of "pro gamers" about too "casual" gameplay. Others also point out the lack of certain features, even 3 years after the release of Age of Empires IV.
Of course, as mentioned, more than half of AoE 4's ratings remain positive, so the developer did not so much displease the players as divide them into opponents and supporters of the update. Let's hope that the creators will reconcile the community in the upcoming updates and DLC.
