Before her career-breaking performance in How I Met Your Mother, Cobie Smulders worked in another industry, but says it wasn't made for her.
Cobie Smulders was one of the stars of the sitcom How I Met Your Mother, where she played the role of Robin Scherbatsky. But what many fans of the TV series may not know about her is that before she became an actress, she worked in the fashion industry, posing for photos.
Smulders started her modeling career early on, which, as it turned out, was not her favorite. The actress confessed that she felt uncomfortable with being photographed, and as a result realized that it was not for her, and instead of modeling, she took up acting, which was a better direction for her. She talked about her experience in modeling during an interview with CBS.
I think to be a good model, you have to enjoy having your picture taken and I never really did. I did it for about two years. And then I realized how much I didn't like it.
The star of How I Met Your Mother didn't feel she was a good model and couldn't get in front of the photocamera, which is indeed an important part of the modeling profession, so she had to give up that career. And, as she confessed, she still doesn't like to have her pictures taken, but she sometimes poses for them, claiming that this can somehow help her acting career.
Well, because I still don't consider myself very interesting. I still don't really enjoy having my picture taken. But I do it because I know that through that maybe I'll get that little indie film! And I'll be a big enough name that they'll take a chance on me and I'll be able to play that role that I've always wanted to play.
Smulders parted ways with modeling, which she was not fond of, however, she has not been able to fully free herself from posing for photos, although she certainly does so to a much lesser extent these days, more often than in front of a photocamera lens finding herself in front of the camera.
After the end of How I Met Your Mother, Cobie Smulders is developing her acting career. She has appeared in Sharp Corner, the TV series Secret Invasion, among others, and is set to star in the production Cupid & Me.
