The Witcher-related Sirius Project May Use Procedurally Generated World
The job announcement suggests that the Witcher-related Project Sirius, announced yesterday, may include procedurally generated world elements.
Yesterday was a particularly good day for fans of games from CD Projekt Red. The Polish company announced several titles - including Project Sirius set in the universe of The Witcher. As it turns out, this game may contain procedurally generated elements.
Such speculations can be made based on job advertisements posted by the company. They show that The Molasses Flood, the studio responsible for Project Sirius (CDPR is only supposed to assist with the game), is looking for level designers. It describes in detail the list of tasks that the hired person will have to perform. Among them, we find a mention that one of the duties is to create stages based on procedural generation.
What would this mean for the game? The areas we would have to traverse could look different for each player. After all, the distribution of objects on the map would be handled by a special algorithm.
The release of Project Sirius is still a long way off (we don't even know the approximate release date or even the real title of the game or its target platforms). According to the information published by CD Projekt RED, more than 60 people are working on the title, and it is in the pre-production stage. It is also known that the game is to offer not only a single-player campaign, but also multiplayer. So it is possible that it is in the latter mode that procedural generation will be used. At this point, however, we can only speculate.
