The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf Will Star Vesemir
We got to know the first details about The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf animation from Netflix. It will tell the adventures of young Vesemir. Moreover, a new promotional video of the live-action series appeared online.
A week after the official announcement of animated film titled The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, Netflix revealed first details about its plot. As it turns out, "a new, powerful threat to the whole continent" will be faced not by the known and loved Geralt of Rivia, but his mentor, Vesemir. To quote the official description:
Long before mentoring Geralt, Vesemir begins his own journey as a witcher after the mysterious Deglan claims him through the Law of Surprise.
As you can easily guess, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf will tell an original story from the Witcher's universe, not based on any story created by Andrzej Sapkowski. Beau DeMayo, a scriptriter for Netflix's Witcher, is responsible for its shape. The whole project, which is being created in the South Korean Studio Mir (The Legend of Korra, Voltron: Legendary Defender, The Death of Superman) is supervised by Lauren S. Hissrich.
So far, we don't know the voice cast of The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. However, speculation continues as to who can play the role of Vesemir. According to Redanian Intelligence, it's possible that it will be Theo James, whom we've already heard as Geralt's mentor in the last episode of the first season of the live-action series. James should be quite well known to fans of animations produced by Netflix. His voice appeared in Castlevania and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. His appearance, in turn, can be seen for example in the Divergent series or Woody Allen's comedy You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger.
Of course, many would like Vesemir in The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf to be played by Mark Hamill, who also is beingtest-fitted on the live-action series. However, as this is supposed to be a film about the early adventures of Geralt's future mentor, it is rather unlikely.
For the time being, we don't know exactly when The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf will appear on Netflix. However, this will most likely happen before the launch of the second season of the live-action series, which is scheduled for 2021.
It is worth recalling that The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf might have never come into being if it hadn't been for the huge success of last year's series based on Andrzej Sapkowski's prose. Although it has been over a month since its launch, it is still being advertised by Netflix. Recently, two videos have appeared on the web, in which Henry Cavill, playing Geralt, tells about swords and the art of wielding them on set and the famous Blaviken scene from the first episode. You can see both materials above.
