The Sims Celebrates 20 Years; The Sims 4 With 20 Million Players

EA reported that The Sims 4's player base exceeded 20 million people. The next part of the series is to put more emphasis on online elements.

The Sims 4 continues to win new players.

Electronic Arts has released a report on its financial results for the previous quarter. It says that over 20 million people have already played The Sims 4. We don't know how this translates into sales, but there is no doubt that the game is very popular. This year the franchise will celebrate its 20th birthday. On this occasion, Origin organized a special offer of the fourth installment and its expansions.

Andrew Wilson, the CEO of EA, spent a lot of time discussing the financial report. He stated that Maxis is currently thinking about the next installment. The next Sims are to put more emphasis on multiplayer aspects such as online interaction and competing with other players.

In the past, EA has already tried to introduce online elements to the franchise. The result was The Sims Online, which however lasted only a few years on the market. This time, instead of creating an MMO game, the devs will probably only enrich the known formula with multiplayer mechanics, keeping the option of having fun alone.

The Sims 4 made its PC debut in 2014, and three years later the game was released on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The game is now going through its golden age. Last year, the base of players of the fourth part of the series increased by many millions of people, which resulted, among other things, in better sales of add-ons.

Last year was exceptionally fruitful for the fans of the game. The Sims 4 received as many as four expansions - StrangerVille, Island Living, Realm of Magic and Discover University.
