Songs of Conquest will soon receive its first expansion pack
We've learned the release date for Songs of Conquest: Vanir, the first expansion to the excellent turn-based strategy game in the style of Heroes 3. The developers also revealed the game's development plans for next year.
Songs of Conquest, the spiritual successor to the Heroes of Might and Magic series, which left Early Access a few months ago, has proven to be one of the best turn-based strategy games of the year. Fans of this game should be interested in the news that the developers have finally announced the release date of the first expansion.
- We won't have to wait long for the Vanir DLC. The expansion will be released on December 17, next Tuesday.
- The DLC will introduce a new playable faction, in the form of the titular Vanir tribes modeled on Vikings, as well as eight new maps.
- This winter, a free update will also be released, which will introduce new maps for the Conquest mode and new artifact sets to the basic version of Songs of Conquest. The game will also hit PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Some bad news about Songs of Conquest
Unfortunately, the devs also had to share bad news. Financial problems forced Lavapotion Studio to lay off some employees. The good news is that they have all already found employment at other companies.
- The developers emphasize that the studio is currently doing well. Therefore, the development plans for next year aren't in danger. In the summer of 2025, we will receive a second paid expansion Roots, which will add the titular faction, as well as an update with new Conquest maps and multiplayer improvements for both PvP and co-op. Furthermore, the game will be available on mobile devices with iOS and Android systems.
- The third expansion and an update with another set of new maps for the Conquest mode are planned for the winter 2025. A conversion to another hardware platform is also being prepared, which the developers aren't yet ready to reveal (it could be about Switch 2).
Songs of Conquest launched in Early Access on May 21, 2022, and version 1.0 was released two years later. The game was warmly received – 87% positive reviews on Steam.
