The Last of Us TV to Premiere Next Year on HBO

Thanks to the director of the first episode of The Last of Us TV series, we learned that the game's screen adaptation is scheduled for release next year.

We may have just learned the planned release date for the TV adaptation of The Last of Us. Kantemir Balagov, the director of the first episode, in the description of his instagram account mentioned this TV project with 2022 as the premiere date.

Unfortunately, we don't know when exactly we will see the adaptation, but most likely it will be the end of 2022. Shooting for The Last of Us TV began earlier this month and it won't be finished until June, next year.Whis means we may have to wait for the debut of HBO's production until 2023. Such a long production cycle is rarely seen in the case of a TV series, so it is possible that some breaks were planned during it, e.g. in order to allow the actor playing Joel, Pedro Pascal, to perform in the third season The Mandalorian, which is expected to shoot late this year or early next.

Let's recall that apart from Kantemir Balagov, the series' directors include Ali Abbasi and Jasmila Zbanic. Each of these artists will direct at least one episode. In the case of the last two, however, it is not known which episodes are involved.

The first season of The Last of Us TV will consist of ten episodes. The producers of the series are Craig Mazin, of Chernobyl fame, and Neil Druckman, the father of the game series on which the adaptation is based. Apart from the aforementioned Pedro Pascal, the cast includes such actors as Gabriel Luna (e.g. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Terminator: Dark Fate) and Bella Ramsey (Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones), who will play the role of Ellie. Joel's daughter will be played by Nico Parker and Marlene by Merle Dandridge, who also played this character in the console versions.
