Hit FPS The Finals Changes Matchmaking to Provide Better Gameplay Experience
The Finals has received another hotfix. The update patched a bug related to logging in to Steam and made significant improvements to matchmaking.
Debut of the first season of shooter from the veterans of Battlefield went quite well, but the developers obviously can't rest on their laurels. The game has already received two small patch bundles, and the latest hotfix introduced changes to matchmaking in The Finals.
The title is based on a system that matches players according to skill (Skill-Based Matchmaking, or SBMM for short), which in theory is supposed to ensure balanced (and thus fun) sessions. However, as is usually the case in online games, apparently the solution didn't work as well as the developers hoped (via Steam).
They didn't reveal what exactly has been changed, but stipulated that a side effect of the fixes may be "slightly longer" wait times to join gameplay. In return the game should better match players with similar skills.
In addition, hotix 1.2.3 fixed a glitch with logging in to Steam causing a false ban message to appear (the "bans" caused by this have been revoked), fixed the countdown in the in-game store, and made a small change to the Quick Cash and Bank It modes.
Another thing is that few players have complained about SBMM (except those who don't like the very idea of such a solution). More often there are reports of problems with launching the game or its operation or bugs. These aren't that many either (at least compared to many of this year's launches), but it's clear that the developers still need to refine The Finals. Also in terms of gameplay balance, at least according to some players (via Steam / Reddit).
