The Elder Scrolls 6 May be the Last TES From Todd Howard
If Bethesda continues to release games at an unchanged pace, The Elder Scrolls VI could be the last installment in the series produced by Todd Howard.
Although the world is now bustling with information about Starfield, which received a ton of new gameplay after yesterday's Starfield Direct presentation, it's worth keeping in mind that Bethesda is also planning sequels to its iconic game series. How long will we have to wait for the studio's next productions and will Todd Howard be working on them?
The answers are best sought at the source - the 52-year-old American producer and the face of Bethesda. Howard recently informed IGN, that the studio's immediate plan is to launch and support Starfield after its release. Currently, there is nothing unusual about this - in order to keep players with the game for longer, the developers often release expansions or major updates.
Todd Howard reminded that the next game in line is The Elder Scrolls VI. The first teaser of the game was released 2018 during the E3 trade show. Two years ago, we learned that the title was in the design stage, and last year Howard admitted that he had a vague idea about the release of the game. Taking into account the long work on one game, the 52-year-old developer said that the sixth part of TES may be his last:
"As for Elder Scrolls VI, it is a game... I probably shouldn't say this, but if I count it right, I'm not getting any younger. How long have people been playing The Elder Scrolls? This may be my last game in the series. I don't know."
This fact seems all the more regrettable, given that Howard worked on all the major installments of TES starting with Daggerfall. According to him, although Bethesda has several divisions and could count on the help of at least Microsoft, this does not necessarily speed up the development process. As he himself said: "I'd like to be faster, but that's not the goal." For Howard, the most important thing is to devote as much time as necessary to the development of the game - and it's hard to disagree.
After The Elder Scrolls VI Bethesda is expected to release the fifth part of Fallout. However, it will be many years before this happens, even if the studio suddenly changes its working model. Todd Howard may therefore no longer have enough time for the next TES.
