The creators of Dying Light go global as Techland Publishing
The company that gave us Dying Light, Dead Island, and the Call of Juarez series is becoming a global video game publisher, under the name Techland Publishing. They're aiming to release two AAA games a year.
Polish developer and publisher Techland is best known for the successful open-world zombie action game Dying Light (and its expansion pack – The Following). The studio also gave us the original Dead Island and the Wild West-themed Call of Juarez series. Now, the company is expanding its scope and becoming a global video game publisher, from now on known as Techland Publishing (so far Techland has been distributing games in Central and Eastern Europe). Here’s the official press note from the company’s CEO, Pawel Marchewka:
As a developer, we have worked with many renowned publishers in the past so we know first-hand what makes these kinds of collaborations efficient and satisfying for both parties. After the successful promotional campaigns for Dying Light and Dying Light: The Following, led by our own dedicated team, we believe this is the perfect time to use everything we’ve learned and help other developers.
We believe in a flexible and open publishing philosophy, based on respect for the players. We will encourage and financially support developers through investing in bold, unconventional games with great entertainment value.
The company’s goal is to release two multiplatform AAA titles and four digitally-distributed games a year. The first game to be released by Techland Publishing is to be revealed soon.
We know that Techland is currently working on two AAA games. The first one is an open-world fantasy game with RPG elements, which is being developed by the Warsaw-based studio. This, however, is not Hellraid – the action game that was originally announced in 2013, but has since been cancelled. The other one is a mystery, but it may well be Dying Light 2 – the project is developed in Wroclaw by the creators of the original Dying Light.
