The Ascent Devs on Visuals and Xbox Series X
The developers of The Ascent - Neon Giant Studios - have promised that their work will push the boundaries of what's possible on consoles when it comes to graphics. On Xbox Series X, the beautiful visuals are to be accompanied by good performance.
IN A NUTSHELL:
- Devs of The Ascent promise that on the Xbox Series X their work will offer high quality graphics, as well as very smooth gameplay;
- Thanks to the scalability of Unreal Engine 4, the game is expected to look good on Xbox One but offer better quality on next-gen.
Neon Giant, the creators of The Ascent, were recently interviewed by GamingBolt. One of the topics of the interview were the visual aspects of their work. The developers argue that thanks to the power of Microsoft's 9th-gen console, they were able to offer players a very high quality of graphics without compromising performance.
“We have put a heavy emphasis on shaders and dynamic lighting, as well as intense VFX and physics, everything to make the world feel detailed and dynamic, with satisfying feedback for the players actions. Blowing things up should look, sound and feel good! But the fast pace of the gameplay also works best at a high frame rate with low latency and high resolution crispness! On the Series X, we can thankfully do both at the same time," said Neon Games founder Tor Frick.
Importantly, although the creators of The Ascent want to take full advantage of the next-gen console's processing power, the Xbox One version will be as similar to the next-gen edition as possible. The scalability of Unreal Engine 4 allows for this.
"Working with Unreal 4 allows us to maintain as much parity as possible from Xbox One all the way up to Xbox Series X, while still pushing the quality upwards with the next-gen versions," said Frick.
The Ascent will debut on July 29th, this year on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. The title will also be available in Xbox Game Pass.
