Not all companions in the game from Larian Studios look their age. Compared to the rest, some are downright petite.

While the Baldur's Gate 3's fan community has always been active, in recent weeks it has become louder – and this is all thanks to the new features introduced in the seventh patch. The update includes, among other things, official support for mods, which were also introduced on consoles at the beginning of October. No wonder then, that the fans are delighted, and internet forums are bursting at the seams.

The topics discussed are not necessarily related to new developments. Recently, the players have been discussing... the age of the main characters, which can sometimes be surprising.

"Lae'zel and co. in their 40s hunting down a god"

The companion age issue in Baldur's Gate 3 returned as part of a Reddit post, the author of which notes that the information revealed by Larian Studios could have been shocking when compared to her physical appearance or life experience. One of the most obvious examples is Lae'zel, who is only 22 years old – and therefore the youngest member of the party.

Some fans find such a phenomenon touching, especially in the context of the githyanki warrior's relationships with other characters. Among others, Minthara is mentioned, who calls Lae’zel a child if she dies in combat - some even notice that a bond of mentor and student is forming between them.

"Minthara ADORES her. When in the third act they talk about a city full of corrupt rats, Minthara says something like: 'And what do we do with the rats, Lae’zel?'. She sounded a bit like a mentor, which was adorable,"

Minthara's age, like that of other elves, can be counted in the hundreds - the drow is exactly 250 years old, being in third place just behind Halsin and Astarion, who are 350 years old. In the case of the pale elf, it's also worth considering his vampirism; formally, he only became immortal before turning forty, which is still considered a child's age among this race.

The case is similar for Jaheira and Shadowheart, who, as half-elves, age slightly slower than humans. The female druid known from previous Baldur's Gate installments is 150 years old, but looks only 50 – the same age as Shadowheart will soon be.

Some examples break the heart.

Commenters under the Reddit thread also frequently mention Karlach, whose age ranges between 28-32 years, placing her between the youngsters (Lae’zel and Wyll) and the old-timers. Our horned friend survived a series of horrors and atrocities, spending her youth as a prisoner of Hell.

"Karlach's age didn't surprise me, but it broke my heart. She is so young for someone who has experienced so many shitty things. And although I will never allow it in my games, her destiny is death at a young age,"

As we mentioned at the beginning, Baldur’s Gate 3 is so far one of the most popular games of recent months, even though it has been over a year since its premiere. More than 100,000 people are diving into the world of Faerun at the same time, which is no small feat – and we hope that Larian Studios will enjoy this success for as long as possible.
