Tesla Suspends Production for 2.5 Weeks in Mysterious Circumstances

According to an internal note, on Christmas Eve, Tesla will suspend production of Model S and Model X cars for more than two weeks. The reasons for this decision are unknown.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. On December 24, Tesla will suspend production of Model S and Model X cars for 18 days;
  2. The reasons are unknown.

CNBC reports that on December 24, Tesla will suspend production of Model S and Model X cars for eighteen days. The source of the information is to be an internal note. Employees are said to be paid for this period as one week's work and will have the opportunity to work in other teams within Tesla or to deliver cars to customers (some have decided to take paid leave instead).

Interestingly, the reasons for the decision are not known. Some people on Twitter speculate that the decision may be related to lack of parts - e.g. batteries - or to improvement of the production line, but these are only speculations. What's more, the commitments to the state of California - from which Tesla received a large tax credit in 2015 to produce a certain number of S and X Models by 2021 - make it important for the company to produce as many of the vehicles as possible (the company did not achieve its target yet).

Another e-mail sent to the employees by Elon Musk himself last Friday is also talking about increasing production. In the e-mail, he encourages those who have ideas for improving the process to share them, because, as he says, the demand for Tesla cars is still growing.

All that remains is to hope that Tesla hasn't encountered any major problems - after all, it is one of the world's most dynamically growing companies in recent years, providing employment for thousands of people.
