„Terraria will never die as long as there is one last final update.” Indie hit dev suggests that update 1.4.5 may not be the last one

Terraria is still waiting for its next „final” update, numbered 1.4.5. The game's developer intends to release it this year but also hints that it may not be actually the last one.

The last update for Terraria, called Journey’s End, was released in May 2020 and... it wasn't the final one at all. A few months later, the true final version 1.4.1 launched, but in 2022, it was revealed that the developers had some unfinished business, leading to a patch named Labor of Love. However, this isn't the end, as shortly after the 1.4.5 update was announced.

This is considered to be definitively final, but only because it hasn't yet debuted. Initially, it was supposed to be released in 2023, but it has experienced several delays. In November, the developers announced that due to their desire to perfect their work, it will launch in 2025. Now the head of Re-Logic studio, Redigit, conveyed that this is his main mission.

We are back to work tomorrow and I’ve got one single mission: releasing the final update.

What's interesting, he also suggested that version 1.4.5 doesn't necessarily have to be the last one, which would once and for all end the development of Terraria. One of the players asked him how many more times he intends to release the final update, to which he replied:

Terraria will never die as long as there is one last final update.

Looking at the history of the game, it wouldn't be strange if version 1.4.6, or even 1.5, was announced sometime after the release of 1.4.5. The developer of Terraria really likes to "troll" his fans, so there's a chance for that.

Before I die, I will upload my consciousness to Terraria, there I can troll the players for the rest of eternity.

In the case of some devs, such behavior could annoy players, but Re-Logic gets away with it. This is understandable, as Terraria is simply a great title, which attracts tens of thousands of players on Steam every day. So they would be even more than satisfied if their favorite game never died.
