Team Fortress 2 with finale after 7 years. Last comic issue is worthy conclusion to TF2 story
The Days Have Worn Away is the final part of the Team Fortress 2 comic book, which fans have been waiting 7 years for. The game also received a patch that put an end to carts that defy the laws of physics.
After 7 years, we finally got the finale of the Team Fortress 2 saga. No, not in the form of a game update, but in the seventh and final issue of the Mann Co. comic: The Days Have Worn Away.
Heavy and company
The last time we saw Heavy, Miss Pauling, Merasmus, and the rest of the crazy (to put it mildly) Team Fortress 2 gang, it was clear that the story was heading towards its end. Unfortunately, for almost 7 years the comic seemed to be as forgotten as the game itself, and many fans gave up hope that we would ever see the end of the mercenaries' story.
The information and unexpected teaser from July gave hope to the players: the seventh comic is still in the works. However, there were still many doubts about when (and if at all) the issue would see the light of day. Meanwhile, the writers gave fans a Christmas gift. And what kind, because The Days Have Worn turned out to be a real treat for TF2 fans.
I won't write too much about the fate of the Scout or Gray Mann's daughter, what proposals the Soldier and the Korean mafia made to Merasmus, where Saxton Hale and the administrator ended up, and who holds the Eyelander in their hands. Let's say that the comic's finale turned out to be just as crazy and absurd as the previous issues, but it also gave fans plenty of reasons to smile (or cry).
What's next for Team Fortress 2?
Of course, fans valued the contributions of the nine artists responsible for the Team Fortress 2 finale (who also disclosed what was left out of the comic and the true name of the Medic), along with the Valve company. Also for honoring Rick May (the voice actor of the Soldier, who died during the coronavirus pandemic).
The debut of The Days Have Worn sparked a wave of speculation about the future of the game. Referring to TF 2 as an actively developed title (as the official game page on Steam does) is a big overstatement, but it is undeniable that this year has been possibly the most important for Team Fortress 2 since the release of the Jungle Inferno update. Killing bots, relatively frequent updates with fixes, finally ending the comic - it's more than fans received over the previous 6 years.
So it is not surprising that some internet users express hope that Valve is preparing something related to the brand: maybe the legendary Heavy update or even a sequel with a new generation of mercenaries.
The Days Have Worn Away
However, fans drew attention to the post published on the official TF2 website and the comic itself. Apart from the mention of a historically "short" delay, nothing in the message suggests that there is news about the future of the series lurking on the horizon. Of course, some people interpret the penultimate paragraph as a "teaser" (where have we seen that before...), but this seems to be a significant overinterpretation of the devs' joke.
The comic book itself - from the title, through the Christmas Eve panel, to Saxton Hale's words on the last page - gives the impression that this is a farewell to the Team Fortress 2 universe, not a harbinger of a return to active game development.
Of course, there is a chance that Valve will return to TF 2 after years of neglect. However, it's better not to get too carried away with enthusiasm and expect major innovations.
Nevertheless, it should be mentioned that Team Fortress 2 also received a minor update. Featuring a rather amusing list of changes, which includes fixes like "the cart no longer attempts to defy the laws of physics", bots that have finally learned to "play on maps," and increased freedom for "ninja engineers."
