Many of the ideas for an adaptation of the Sandman graphic novel series were shot down in recent years. One of them was a project for HBO by James Mangold. The creator finally revealed what went wrong.

The creator of the Sandman comic book series, Neil Gaiman, reassured the fans, revealing that work on Netflix's TV adaptation will resume as soon as the coronavirus situation allows it. For now, the scripts for the first season's episodes have been completed.
